SMP

Section Management Process (SMP) is a section management model that has been developed to assist sections in their planning and implementation of services and programs that will meet the needs of current and future members. Click here to see our 2007-2008 SMP.

SMP Recognition

In the first level, Section Basics, sections demonstrate their viability and commitment to serving ASQ members by meeting the basic requirements for being a section. These basic requirements include:

  • Submitting the completed officers listing by May 1st

  • Submitting the completed committee chair listing by June 30th

  • Submitting the (audited) annual financial report by August 15th

  • Having a minimum of 30 paid members as of June 30th

  • Conducting regularly scheduled activities

  • Upholding the Society By-laws, Society Policies and Procedures, and the Section Operating Agreement

The second level, Section Planning, requires that all section basics be met as well as the following requirements:

  • Financial reports are reviewed by ASQ Headquarters and accepted

  • Submitting Level 3 requirements (Cover letter and business plan results) by September 1st.

  • Submission of the section’s business plan and budget by October 1st

  • Sending quarterly communication to section members

  • Holding quarterly meetings with section leadership committee

  • Holding four professional development events a year (Speakers, clinics, tutorial, plant tour, etc)

  • Submitting the Section Officer Listing by May 1st

  • Submitting the Section Committee Listing by June 30th

Sections meeting the Section Planning Level are eligible for future recognition in the Section Performance Level (Total Quality and / or Section Excellence Awards). These awards are received one year late, since the results can’t be determined until the year is over.

Total Quality requires that the section achieve 75% of the goals set forth in our business plan and submit required documentation to ASQ Headquarters by September 1st.

Section Excellence requires that the section meet at least one of the three Society-section measures. These measures are based on the membership retention rate and results of the Member Satisfaction Survey, which is conducted in early winter.

  • Member Retention – Meet or exceed the overall geographic section retention rate average

  • Member Satisfaction – Meet of exceed the Society average on the Member Satisfaction Survey

  • Member Loyalty – Meet or exceed the Society average on the Member Satisfaction Survey

Sections meeting all three are awarded the Gold Excellence Award. Two measures met will earn sections the Silver Excellence Award. Sections meeting one measure will earn the Bronze Excellence Award.
